Obituary of Frederick M. Schaefer, Jr.

Frederick M. Schaefer, Jr. PERU-Frederick M. Schaefer, Jr., 37, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved father, husband, teacher and school administrator, Fred will be remembered most for his mischievous sense of humor, his indefatigable spirit and his uncompromising integrity both inside and outside of the classroom. After graduating from SUNY Plattsburgh with Master's degrees in Education, Fred and his wife Natalie began teaching in the Peru Central School District. A perennial 'favorite teacher' among students, Fred inspired many to eventually pursue degrees in education. After many years in the classroom, Fred accepted the position of Assistant Middle School Principal, where he relished his role mentoring students. A devoted husband and father, Fred's greatest joy was sharing his love for the outdoors with his family. An avid outdoorsman, Fred was happiest when he was spending time hiking or boating with his wife Natalie and three children, Isabella, Seth and Sebastien, either here in the Adirondack region or in Natalie's native Maine. He also enjoyed nothing more than attending his children's sporting events, or sharing with them his passion for learning. Fred's loving family includes his wife, Natalie; his three children, Isabella, Seth and Sebastien; his father Frederick M. Schaefer, Sr. of Buffalo, NY; his sister Tyanne Burke of BuffaloNY and his brother Kurt Schaefer of Boulder, CO. Fred was predeceased by his mother Adrienne. Donations in his memory can be made to the Frederick M. Schaefer Leadership Award and mailed to Peru Central School District, c/o Treasurer, PO Box 68, Peru, NY, 12972; a scholarship set up through Peru High School honoring a graduating student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the community. A service for Frederick will be conducted Friday, March 18th at 4 PM at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 1804 Main Street, Keeseville. Letters relating favorite memories of Fred are appreciated by his family and will be accepted at the service and may be placed in a basket that will be provided.
