Obituary of Raymond W. Buckley

Raymond W. Buckley Saranac - Raymond W. Buckley, 80, of the Silver Lake Road, Saranac, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Union Falls, July 23, 1930 the son of Raymond F. and Velma M. (Roberts) Buckley. Raymond served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from February 7, 1951 until his honorable discharge, December 11, 1953 at the rank of Sergeant. Raymond worked for Dubray Trucking, Dorn's Trucking, and lastly Red Star Express Lines. Throughout the years Ray owned and operated a farm on the Silver Lake Road. He also owned "Buckley's Bums" Hunting Club from the early 60's until present. He enjoyed cooking especially at the American Legion and the VFW in Keeseville. He was a member of the Saranac American Legion Post 1618, past commander from 1969 to 1970, and officer on the house committee from 1995 to present. He was a member of the Keeseville VFW Post 1505 from 1971 to present, and a member of the Keeseville Elks Lodge # 2072. Survivors include his children, Patricia Smart and her husband Wesley of Saranac, Patrick Buckley and companion Donna DePasquale of Saranac, and Elizabeth Buckley and companion Louie Tan of Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Brad Smart and his wife Sandra, Joshua Smart, Justina Smart, Jessica Coyle and husband Brendan, Melissa Buckley, Justin Plumadore, and DellaRae Plumadore; one great-granddaughter, Alaina Coyle; step grandchildren, Charles, Crystal, and Kelcie; step great-grandchildren, Sienna and Brennan; siblings, Ann Frenyea of Mooers, Lawrence and Mary Buckley of Middletown, Mabel and Glenn Amrhein of Sauquoit, and Velma and Hugh Martin of Saranac; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Della (LaFave) Buckley, July 28, 1984; and daughter, Theresa Buckley, August 17, 1965. Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 4 to 7 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Members of the Keeseville Elks Lodge will meet at the funeral home for a 6 PM service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, March 18, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Military honors will follow outside of the Church. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Meals-On-Wheels, Alzheimer's Association, or the Church of the Assumption.
