Obituary of Augustus Claude Flora, Jr.
Augustus Claude "Gussie" Flora, Jr. Willsboro - Augustus Claude "Gussie" Flora, Jr., of 41 Maple Street, Willsboro, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the age of 76 in Lake Placid at Uihlein Mercy Center. He was born at home in Willsboro, on May 29, 1934 to Augustus C. and Florence (Cooley) Flora. Gussie grew up in Willsboro and attended school at Willsboro High School. He served in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge September 30, 1962. On returning home he got a job as a night watchman at the Essex County Nursing Home in Whallonsburg, New York where he worked for many years before going to work at the Willsboro Central School. There he was a custodian, assistant mechanic and bus driver for many years until his retirement. Gussie was a simple man who loved cats. You would expect to see him every day parked at the Gilliland Cemetery watching the traffic and listening to the radio after his morning coffee and gossip session at the Sportsman's Diner. His out look on life and his jokes where always a bit off color but that is what you expected from him. And if he wasn't in the house listening to bluegrass you could find him in the shed tinkering on a lawnmower. He is survived by one sister, Louise LeClair of Queensbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Joe and Halsey. Services will be held in the spring at a date to be announced. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Willsboro. Donations in his memory may be made to the St. John Feral Cat Fund, PO Box 2884, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901. Special thanks to the staff at CVPH and Uihlein for all the help and kindness you gave "Gussie". Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. 643-9055
