Obituary of Ronald D. Ryan

Ronald D. Ryan Port Kent - Ronald D. Ryan, 76, of the Trembleau Road, Port Kent, died Friday, September 24, 2010 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, July 29, 1934, the son of Daniel and Madeline (LeClair) Ryan. He was a 1954 graduate of Keeseville High School. In September of 1954 he enlisted in the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1956. Ronald retired as a Lieutenant from Adirondack Correctional Facility in Ray Brook, September 23, 1987. During his more than 30-year career in corrections he worked at Clinton Correctional, Comstock, Coxsackie, back to Dannemora, and lastly Adirondack. Ronald love music, especially playing it. He was a guitarist and played at many local places throughout his adult life. He also enjoyed hunting in "Douglas" with his family and friends. He was a member of the Keeseville VFW Post 1505. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sally (Bennett) Ryan, whom he married March 2, 1957 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville. Survivors also include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rob and Karen Ryan, and Randy and Kim Ryan, all of Port Douglas; one daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Kevin Blaise of Keeseville; seven grandchildren, Adam Ryan, and Krista (Ryan) Devins, Heather Arthur, and Jason Ryan, and Corey, Ryan, and Caitlin Blaise; sister-in-law, Norma LaChaunce of Port Kent; brother-in-law, Robert Bennett and his wife Evelyn of Peru; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and two sisters and their husband, Shirley and John "Jack" Connell, and Kathleen and Larry Burris. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2010 from 11 to 12:45pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville. A memorial Mass will follow at 1pm at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Committal prayers, full military honors, and burial will follow in the Port Douglas Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville Fire Dept., 8 Pleasant Street, Keeseville, NY, 12944.
