Obituary of Charles D. Arthur

Charles D. Arthur Peru - Charles D. Arthur, 81, of the Arthur Road, Peru, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, September 1, 1928 the son of Ralph M. and Marie (Covel) Arthur. Charlie grew up in Peru and graduated from Keeseville High School in 1947. He married the former Marion Wrisley, September 27, 1947 in Keeseville. She predeceased him May 18, 1995. Since childhood he was a dairy farmer beginning on his family's farm in Peru. His career as a dairy farmer expanded over the years throughout the North Country. Farms he worked at included Norman's in Saranac Lake, the Neyenhouse Farm in Peru, the South Farm in Essex, Stalker's Farm in Ravena, and lastly he returned to manage the family farm. His final employment was with the Town of AuSable Highway Dept. A position he held for many years prior to retiring in 2008. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Essex. Charlie enjoyed playing cards whether it was solitaire by himself or games with his beloved grandchildren. He also enjoyed being surrounded by his friends and family at his home. Survivors include his children, Mary and Joseph Lahut of Moultonborough, NH, Barbara Arthur of Peru, and Chuck and Carla Arthur of Peru; grandchildren, Adam Charles Lahut and wife, Kristin, Emily Lahut, Sarah Lahut, Ken Coleman, Katie Coleman, Anne Arthur, Charlie Arthur and wife, Bethany, and Josh Arthur and wife, Heather; two recently born twin great-grandsons, Joseph Patrick and Kevin James Lahut; one brother, Ralph Arthur of Peru; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Lois and Milton Wrisley of Sebastian, Fla., Hilda and George Curtis of Peru, Linda Arthur of Peru, Joan and Carl Lange of Harkness, and Thelma Lyon of Keeseville; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lowry of Washingtonville, and Betty King and her husband, Jerry of Cadyville; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his parents, his sister, Cora LaBounty, two brothers, Willis H. Arthur and Edwin H. Arthur; and a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Arthur. Calling hours will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 5 to 7pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Burial will be in the spring in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Keeseville. Donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville Rescue Squad or your local Meals-On-Wheels program.
