Obituary of Gertrude T. Joyal

Gertrude T. Joyal Harkness - Gertrude T. Joyal, 83, formerly of the Calkins Road, Harkness, died Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Keeseville, November 1, 1926 the daughter of Stanley and Mildred (Dodds) Thompson. Gertrude graduated from Keeseville High School and she graduated from Nursing School in Plattsburgh. She was a Registered Nurse at the CVPH Medical Center for many years, assisting with the births of many North Country Children. She was a member of the Residence Council at Meadowbrook Healthcare, Keeseville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the WSCS at the Harkness United Methodist Church, and the Grey Nun's. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing bingo, watching NASCAR, puzzle books and playing solitaire. Survivors include her children, two sons and two daughters-in-law, George and Brenda Joyal of Morrisonville, and Robert and Jen Joyal of Mocksville, NC; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Candace and Harley Roberts of Concord, North Carolina, Deborah Joyal of Keeseville, Trudy and Rodney Hall of Albany, and Patricia and Charles Anzalone of Kannapolis, North Carolina; grandchildren, Charles, Kyle, Tamara, and Albert Roberts, Kenneth Joyal, Mallory Valk, Wallace and Ann Hall, Christopher Joyal, Jessica, Nicole and Stephanie, and Joey and Nathan Anzalone; numerous great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Reginald F. Joyal, January 19, 2000; granddaughter, Candace Joyal; three sisters, Georgianna Anson, Helen Tweedy, and Ruth Ryan; and one brother, Hayes Thompson. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 3 to 7pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 11am at the Harkness United Methodist Church with Rev. Edie A. Poland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Harkness Cemetery in the Spring. Donations in her memory may be made to the Harkness United Methodist Church or the Keeseville Fire Department.
