Obituary of Virginia M. Delumyea

Virginia M. Delumyea Keeseville - Virginia M. Delumyea, 86, of Smart Street, Keeseville, died Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born in Rochester, September 11, 1923 the daughter of Charles and Irma (Lamb) Alger. Virginia graduated from Livonia High School in 1941 and Highland Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester in 1944. Virginia worked in the OR at the Saranac Lake General Hospital a short time before marrying her husband, Francis Delumyea, February 3, 1945 at the Lake Placid Club. She then worked at the Physicians Hospital and also did private duty nursing. In 1952 Francis and Virginia opened Plattsburgh Garden Center and together operated for 30 years, retiring and selling in 1983. Their home was in Keeseville, but they traveled the US in their motor home during winter months, always returning to the North Country in the spring. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Francis Delumyea of Keeseville; her three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Delumyea and his wife Cynthia of Moneta, VA, Chris Delumyea and his wife Nancy of Truckee, CA, and James Delumyea and his wife Ann of Mattyville; grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathon Delumyea, Michelle and Tyler Delumyea, Sara and Joshua Delumyea and David and Ryan Gunthier; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and a son, Richard "Dr. Del" Delumyea, March 2004. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 11, 2010 at 11am at St. Alexander's Cemetery in Morrisonville. Pastoral Associate Pamela Ballantine, will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville. 834-7667
