Obituary of Marcel V. DeCoste

Marcel V. DeCoste Mooers Forks - Marcel V. DeCoste, 78, of the Cannon Corners Road, Mooers Forks, died Friday, December 25, 2009 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Mooers Forks, June 5, 1931, the son of Eldemore and Bertha (Gadway) DeCoste. Marcel graduated from Mooers Central School in 1949. He worked on his father's farm and later worked as the Postal Carrier of Mooers Forks for 35 years before retiring in 1996. He also was one of the owners of the bar his father built " Rockland Inn". He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his family and friends. He liked going to auctions and playing horseshoes and won several awards. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved animals. Besides his dog Jake, he took in several stray cats and adopted unwanted dogs. Marcel was a 44-year member of the Knights of Columbus council 4441 in Ellenburg, and was a volunteer Fire Fighter, station two, for ten years beginning in 1980. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Alice T. Boyea of Ellenburg; his son Craig DeCoste of Mooers Forks, his daughter and son-in-law Deborah (DeCoste) and Dan Garrand of Mooers, a daughter Robin Gadway (DeCoste) of Rouses Point, a daughter and son-in-law Wendy (DeCoste) and Jim Davison of Mooers Forks, a daughter Tracy DeCoste of Chazy; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Candice Garrand, Justin, Jon, and Jessica Gadway and Travis and Tyler Davison; four great-grandchildren, Adam Garrand-Reid, Lilly, Logan Gadway, Raeghan Davison, and Alexis. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Sharron DeCoste of Burlington, a sister, Rita Demaris of Plattsburgh, a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Michael Bechard of Chazy, a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Valarie DeCoste of Albany, a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Wayne Supernaw of Mooers, a brother and sister-in-law Gary and Linda DeCoste of Mooers, a sister-in-law Ethel DeCoste of Ellenburg, a sister-in-law Doris DeCoste of Mooers Forks, a sister-in-law Bernie DeCoste of Mooers; he is also survived by aunts, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers; Raymond, Joseph (Esmond) and Lionel DeCoste; two brothers and their wives, Arthur and Mary DeCoste and Leon and Judy DeCoste. He is also predeceased by Betty Barcomb, who he welcomed into his home. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 11 to 1pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. Members of the Ellenburg Knights of Columbus will meet Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home for a 12pm service. Entombment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Whispering Maples Memorial Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot. Donations in his memory may be made to the Elmore SPCA or the St. Johns Feral Cat fund. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. 236-4747
