Philip Norman Eamer
Peru - Philip Norman Eamer, 70, of the Barney Downs Road, Peru died Friday, December 11, 2009 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
He was born in Cortland, NY on April 12, 1939, the son of the late Harold and Nina (Hastings) Eamer.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1956 where he did his basic training in Texas. He was then sent to the Plattsburgh Air Force Base where he met the love of his life and soul mate, Barbara Jean (Akey) Eamer, they were married August 16, 1958 at Our lady of Victory in Plattsburgh. He worked for Imperial Wallcoverings for 28 years. He and his wife were Eucharistic Ministers. Phil joined the Knights of Columbus #7273 in Peru and became an Honorary Life Membership in 2009 after 25 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Barbara; three children, Terry Eamer of Peru and Chris Eamer and his wife Laurie of Peru, and a daughter, Laurie Eamer of Mooers. Five grandchildren, Gweneth, Theresa, and Rachael Eamer, and Joshua and Daniel Eamer. One great granddaughter, Hailey Lynn Eamer; sisters, Bernice Merihew of McGraw, NY, Nelda Gage and her husband Philip of McGraw, NY; Naida Leet and her husband Albert of Marathon, NY; Rena Winfrey and her husband Robert of Punta Gorda, FL; and Valerie Adams of Elmira, NY; Barb's siblings, Roderick Akey of AuSable Forks, Bob Akey and his wife Judy of Peru, Laura Garrow of Redford, and Dorothy Williams and her husband Gary of Sandoval, Illinois; special friends, Deacon George Benson, and Kevin Kearney; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Harold and Charles; sister, Eva and her husband Leslie Smith; mother and father-in-law, Mabel and Joseph Akey; brothers-in-law, Carl Marihew, Joseph Akey, Jr, and Joe Garrow.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held Monday, December 14, 2009 from 12 to 1pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, December 14, 2009 at 1:30pm at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. Alan D. Shnob, parish pastor, celebrating and Deacon George Benson assisting. Committal prayers, military honors, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to his wife, Barb to be used at her discretion.
