John F. MestrovMooers Forks - John F. Mestrov, 74, of Pepper Hill Road, Mooers Forks, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.He was born in Zadar, Croatia, March 8, 1935, the son of John and Nevenka (Mestrovich) Mestrov.John traveled the globe throughout his many years of service in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Carpenter's and Joiner's Union Local #1042 for 37 years.John was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a wonderful cook.Survivors include his mother, Nevenka Mestrov of Marlboro; one brother, George Mestrov and his wife, Helen of Marlboro; two nieces, Alba Borchert and her husband Stephen of Marlboro and Claudia Mestrov of Highland, NY; great-niece and great-nephew, Natasha and Max; one step-son, David Wood of Amsterdam; one step-daughter, Julie Bartley of West Chazy; two step-grandchildren, Zachary Wood, and Kathryn Bartley; John's brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and spouses, Elizabeth and Raymond Heininger of Constable, Vivian Ashline of Evans, Georgia, Rosella and Hector Martineau of Morrisonville, Eileen and Anthony Minio of Brooklyn, Connecticut, Bernice Henderson of Morrisonville, Myrna and Steve Bunner of Greenwood, Missouri, William and Karen Ashline of Plattsburgh, Frances and Tim Neal of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Anita and Eldon Mockry of Lenexa, Kansas, and Keith Ashline of Arlington Heights, Illinois; many other nieces and nephews, and his beloved beagle, Molly.He was predeceased by his father; wife, Joan M. Mestrov; and two brothers-in-law, Herbert Ashline, and Philip Ashline.Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 1 to 5pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 30, 2009 at 1pm at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville with Rev. Scott R. Seymour, parish pastor, celebrating. Committal prayers and entombment will be held Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 12:00pm at the Cedar Hill Cemetery Mausoleum in Newburgh, NY.Donations in John's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. 236-4747
