Edna L. Hutchinson
Peru - Edna L. Hutchinson, 85, of Birchwood Drive, Peru, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the CVPH Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Keeseville, December 24, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Mary Helen (Sharrow) Lesperance.
Edna graduated from Keeseville Central School and attended the Champlain Valley School of Nursing where she received her RN degree. She also received a B.S. and M.S. in Nursing and Teaching from the State University at Plattsburgh.
She was employed as a School Nurse Teacher in the Peru Central School system from 1945 until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of St. Augustine's Parish and served on the Parish council.
Following her retirement she devoted her time to the volunteer program of the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was a member of the N.Y.S. Retired Teachers Association, the Retired School Nurse Teachers Association and the Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Edna remained active and interested in the community throughout her life.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James E. Hutchinson, who she married, April 18, 1949; one daughter, Cynthia Hutchinson and her husband Phil Hunter of Elmira; one sister, Margaret Earl of Keeseville; two nieces and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and most recently by one sister, Theresa Mussen on August 19, 2009.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. An open gathering for family and friends will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2009 from 12 to 2pm at Crickets Restaurant in Peru.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Augustine's Church or the Peru Community Church.
