Obituary of Bernard C. Rock

Bernard C. "Rocky" RockPeru - Bernard C. "Rocky" Rock, 88, formerly of the Union Road, Peru, died Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Center in Plattsburgh surrounded by his loving family.He was born in Morrisonville, March 27, 1921, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (McGee) Rock.He graduated from Morrisonville High School and later attended the Aviation Institute of Technology, Long Island, NY, while serving in the United States Army from May 29, 1942 until his honorable discharge on November 4, 1945 as a Sargeant. He was a lifetime member of the Peru Fire Department, serving as Chief for 15 years. He was currently the longest living member of the Peru Fire Department. He was also a member of the Peru Town Councilman, serving two terms. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he served as a rural mail carrier.He is survived by his four daughters and three sons-in-law, Vicki and Ken Defayette of Peru, Nancy O'Neil of Peru, Lucinda and Herb LaDuke of Peru, and Amy and Kurt Walden of Albany; six grandchildren and spouses, Dr. Todd and Lauren Defayette of Schenectady, Tara and Matthew Lagner of Rhode Island, Travis and Jillian O'Neil of Middletown, Cody LaDuke of Peru, and Aubrey and Brock Walden of Albany; four great grandchildren, Jake, Jack, and Mia Stella Defayette and Sadie Grace O'Neil; one brother, Leonard "Cheese" Rock of Morrisonville; sister-in-law, Norma Rock; and many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth M. Rock, January 18, 2004; his parents; sister, Blanche Young; and brother, Lester Rock.Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 12, 2009 from 3 to 6pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, July 13, 2009 at 10am at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. William G. Reamer, CVPH Chaplain celebrating and Rev. Alan D. Shnob, parish pastor, concelebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.Donations in his memory may be made to the Peru Volunteer Fire Department or the Ladies Auxiliary.Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. 643-9055
