Obituary of Michael S. West

Michael Shawn West Plattsburgh - Michael Shawn West, 55, of Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh, lost his courageous battle with cancer, Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, December 5, 1953, the son of Samuel C. and Alice L. (Miller) West. Michael grew up in Texas. After falling in love with the Adirondacks he moved to Plattsburgh in 1991. He was an avid outdoorsman especially enjoying fishing and hunting. He was a loving son, brother, father and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Tonya Gonzales of Austin, TX; son, Shawn West of Davenport, Iowa; mother, Alice M. Cooke of San Antonio, TX; brother, Bill West of Peru; sisters, Karen Sanchez, Linda Perez, Meredith Bendele, and Kimberly Knowlton all of San Antonio, TX; dear friends, Rusty and Betty Haag and Kevin Girard all of Plattsburgh; two grandchildren; and 24 nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Friday, July 10, 2009 from 11 to 12pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A graveside service will follow at 12:15pm in the family plot in the Peru Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Robert E. Svenson, pastor of the Peru Community Church, officiating.
