Robert D. Smith, Sr.Rouses Point - Robert D. Smith, Sr., 75, formerly of Pearl Street, Rouses Point, went to his great reward Monday, June 15, 2009 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his loving family by his side.He was born in Garland, Arkansas, September 2, 1933, the son of Robert D. and Beatrice (Giles) Smith.He later entered the U.S. Navy and served for 20 years. During his time of Military Service he was a two time recipient of the Purple Heart due to his actions at the Chosen Reservoir in the Korean War and near Danang, S. Vietnam, serving as a Navy Corpsman with the 1st Marine Division.After his years of military service, "Smitty" took post with the U.S. Border Patrol. His first duty station was Chula Vista, CA in 1972, where he attained status as a Supervisory Agent. He continued on to the Tampa, FL and Rouses Point/Champlain, NY Border Patrol Stations.He is survived by his wife Marcia; sons Robert Jr, Kevin and Matthew; daughter-in-law Nancy; granddaughters, Lauren and Caitlin, and Grandson Matthew.No services will be held at the request of the family. Internment will take place privately in the family cemetery in Magnolia, AR.Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. 643-9055
