Margaret E. Monette
Mooers - Margaret E. Monette, 79, of State Route 11, Mooers, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at St. Peter's Health Care Services in Albany.
She was born in Mooers, August 9, 1929 the daughter of Peter L. and Dorothy E. (Boulerice) Gonyo.
Margaret worked at Northeastern Clinton Central School in Champlain from November of 1952 until retiring December of 1991. She began at the school as an account clerk and later served the school system as district treasurer. Prior to working at the school she worked for F.W. Woolworth in Plattsburgh. She was a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, an active member of the Rouses Point-Champlain Kiwanis Club for more than 15 years, she served as treasurer and was a member of the Mooers Alumni Association, and she volunteered for years at the Watson House in Mooers. Margaret devoted a great deal of her time helping within the community in a number of quiet ways and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She enjoyed knitting, reading, and being an active contributing member of the Northern Tier. At nearly 80 years old she continued to care for her home inside and out including mowing her lawn and snowblowing in the winter.
Survivors include her siblings, Irene Bushey and husband, Jerry of Bushnell, Florida, Patricia Wood and husband, Stanley of Plattsburgh, Gerald Gonyo and wife, Shirley of Mooers, and Harry Gonyo and wife, Bonnie of Mooers; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Gonyo of Mooers, Mrs. Bernice Barcomb of Champlain, and Mrs. Simone Monette of Champlain; step-daughters, Joey Peete of Mooers, and Gertrude Poulan and Husband Philip of Mooers; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Leeward Monette; brothers, Charles Gonyo, Earl Gonyo, and Arnold Gonyo; brother-in-law, Leonard Monette; and sister-in-law, Ruth Pombrio.
Calling hours will be held Monday, March 9, 2009 from 4 to 8pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. Members of the Knights of Columbus and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary will join Rev. Gerald A. Cerank for a prayer service at 6:00pm, Monday evening, at the Hamilton Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 10am at St. Joseph's Church in Mooers with Rev. Gerald A. Cerank, parish pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Mooers Volunteer Fire Dept.
