Merrill L. Sartwell Peru - Merrill L. Sartwell, 84, of the Mannix Road, Peru, died Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in South Lunenburg, VT, December 24, 1924, the son of Albert and Mabel (Spry) Lyon. Merrill graduated from Peru High School. He graduated from Simmon's School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in Syracuse before entering into the United States Army, he was honorably discharged in 1946. Merrill owned and operated Snap On Tools franchise for 30 years. Merrill was a member of the Peru Community Church serving as head usher and bell ringer for many years. He was an avid outsdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, ice fishing, camping, four wheeling, motorcycle touring and especially racing go carts. Merrill was also a founding member of the Champlain Valley Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Association and an active member of the Boy Scouts when his children were growing up. Survivors include his three children and five grandchildren, Ross Sartwell and companion, Janet Nero of Clintonville, Scott Sartwell and wife, Lisa and their children, Hunter, Riley, and Shawn of Peru, Jan Bouyea and husband, Kurt and their children, Jonathan and Jordan, of Keeseville and a special friend, Clarence Trombley. He was predeceased by his parents; wife of 54 years, Gloria E. Sartwell who died February 18, 2007; and mother and father-in-law, Charlie and Hazel Earl. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 11am at the Peru Community Church with Rev. William G. Reamer, CVPH Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Peru Cemetery Inc. Following the service a gathering will be held at the Peru Community Church Hall. Donations in Merrill's memory may be made to the Kurn Hattin orphanage in Vermont or the Peru Ladies guild. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. 643-9055
