Obituary of Peter M. Daniels

Peter M. Daniels Morrisonville - Peter M. Daniels, 81, of Ashton Drive, Morrisonville, and formerly of Helene Way, Schuyler Falls, died Friday, September 12, 2008 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Lyon Mountain, July 30, 1927, the son of Peter M. and Jenny M. (Wells) Daniels. Peter graduated from Lyon Mountain High School in 1946. He completed courses in electrical engineering from I.C.S. and finished in 1965. He entered the United States Army in 1949. Basic training was completed with the 17th Airborne Division at Camp Picket, Virginia. He was stationed in Japan from 1949 to 1950 at Fort Leonard Wood with the 24th Infantry Division and in Korea from 1950 to 1951 with the 1st Cavalry Division. He received the combat Infantryman's Badge with 3 bronze combat campaign stars. Peter worked for Republic Steel for 12 years from 1946 to 1958. He worked with the Local 781 I.B.E.W. from 1958 to 1965 on all 12 missile sights, Cape Heart House, New York City Subways, LaGuardia Airport, the World Fair, Plattsburgh High School, Clinton, Franklin, Bear Hill, and Moriah Prisons, NYS Government Campus in Albany, and Cement Plant in Catskill. He worked for Zitek Electric for 18 years from 1965 to 1983. The last 10 years of Zitek he was co-owner/operator. From 1983 to 1986 he was at Nine Mile Nuclear Generating Plant. Lastly, Peter was an apprentice instructor for both the Local 781 and Local 910 for 21 years. He retired August 1, 1989. Peter served for 26 years on the Democratic Town of Schuyler Falls Committee. Two terms as Councilman for the Town of Schuyler Falls Board. He was a 20-year member of the Morrisonville Fire Dept., and served as Assistant Chief, Fire Police Captain, and Fireflies Racing Team Captain. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1623 in Lyon Mountain, VFW Post 125, Pine Camp Hunting Club President, vice president and steward and member of the North Slop Hunting Club, and club photographer for the North Country Square Dance Club. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanne and Ricardo "Rick" Vasquez of Morrisonville, Mary Ellen and Dana Baker of Saranac Lake, Amy and Tom Longtemps of Cadyville, and Joan and Carl Loveless of Italy; seven grandchildren, Kelly Rutledge, Kenneth Baker, Alan Baker, Danielle Loveless, Taylor Longtemps, Emily Vasquez, and Corey Loveless; three great-grandchildren, Brennan Rutledge, Logan Baker, and Mallory Rutledge; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and two sisters, Irene Baker-Bushey, and Hazel LaDuke. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, September 19, 2008 at 10am at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain with Rev. Theodore A. Crosby, pastor, celebrating. Committal prayers, full military honors, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
