Obituary of Antoinetta L. DiStefano

Antoinetta L. "Ann" DiStefano Peru - Antoinetta L. "Ann" DiStefano, 71, of the Jabez Allen Road, died peacefully, Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous yearlong battle with lung cancer. She was born in Yonkers, March 13, 1937, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Caputo) Carlucci. Ann co-owned and operated Fins, Feathers, N Furs in the Skyway Plaza in Plattsburgh for nearly 20years. "Gram" as her grandchildren and "Nina" as her great-grandchildren fondly referred to her, was all about family. Her life revolved around occasions to cook for her family and friends. She was a fabulous cook, best known for her delicious spaghetti sauce. She loved to sing and dance for her family and would make up silly songs for holidays and other occasions. She had a zest for life and made a positive impact on every life she touched. She was a devoted and generous lady and even through her illness remained positive and happy and more concerned about the well being of others rather than herself. To know her was to love her and she will be sorely missed by all that knew her. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Richard DiStefano of Peru; her three children, Donna and husband, Sherm Hamel of Morrisonville, Rick and wife, Linda DiStefano of Peru, and Kathy and husband, Jerry Curtis of Peasleeville; her mother-in-law, Madeline DiStefano; one sister and brother-in-law, Nikki Duro and Steve Malow of Peru; eight grandchildren, Heather and husband, Mark Kiroy, Kristen Hamel, and Kevin Hamel and partner, Ryan Hathaway, Lindsay DiStefano and companion, Ed Stanton, Kaitlyn DiStefano, Eric DiStefano, Jared Curtis and fianc, Jennifer Prevost, and Sara and husband, Chris Berry; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Hamel, Brandon, Conner and Garrett Kiroy, Melina Stanton, and Paige Berry; two nieces, Kim and Lisa; and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her parents; father-in-law, Anthony "Sonny" DiStefano; and one niece, Patti Ann. Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 7, 2008, from 4 to 7pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 7pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home with Rev. William G. Reamer, CVPH Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be held Monday, September 8, 2008 at Noon, in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Mother Cabrini Shrine. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Peru Rescue Squad or the H. K. Freedman Renal Center in Plattsburgh.
