Obituary of William H. Sussdorff, III

William H. Sussdorff, III Port Kent - William H. Sussdorff, III, 80, of Port Kent, died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Fletcher Allen Healthcare Center in Burlington, Vermont. He was born in Plattsburgh, December 10, 1927, the son of William H. II, and Marion (Gardner) Sussdorff. Bill was a Sgt. with the United States Marine Corps. He served during WWII and the Korean Conflict prior to his honorable discharge. He worked for 11 years as a boatman at AuSable Chasm. He was a NYS Environmental District Forest Ranger for 30 years prior to retiring as Captain. He was a member of the NRA, NYS Foresters Association, Friends of the Fort. Bill was a woodcutter and avid outdoorsman. He loved nature. He was also an avid Syracuse Basketball fan, an antique tool collector, and loved his dog Rusty II. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara (Rumney) Sussdorff, whom he married March 19, 1948 at the Keeseville United Methodist Church Parsonage; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Jay D. Sussdorff of Modena, Scott F. Sussdorff of Gardiner, and William J. and Carol Ann Sussdorff of Diamond Point; one daughter and son-in-law, Erin J. and Millard Rock of Port Kent; two sisters, Genevieve Whitney of Pinellas Park, Florida, and Clare Sager of South Berwick, Maine; grandchildren, Christopher and Amy Sussdorff, John Scott Sussdorff, William Darrell Sussdorff, Michael Shawn Sussdorff, Jared Rock and wife Laurianne, Jesse Rock and wife Kayla, and Luke W. Sussdorff; one great-granddaughter, Annie Elizabeth Rock. He was predeceased by his parents. Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 28, 2008 from 12 to 2pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 2pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Parker officiating. Burial and full military honors will follow in the AuSable Chasm Cemetery.
