Obituary of Gary L. Rock

Gary L. Rock, 84, of 8 Lake Forest Drive, Plattsburgh, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont. He was born in Plattsburgh, October 3, 1938, the son of Leo and Velma (Barber) Rock. Gary married Prim Gordon on June 24, 1963. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June. Gary graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1956 and from the State University of New York in 1961 with a Bachelors and Masters degree. He taught at Peru Central School in the math department for 34 years and for 26 years was chairman of the mathematics department until his retirement in 1995. During their sons' early years he coached youth baseball and youth hockey, which he enjoyed immensely. He spent his retirement years in Palm Harbor, Florida in the Highland Lakes community where he was active in the men's golfing league, was secretary of two bowling leagues, and continued to pursue his favorite hobby, collecting baseball cards. Survivors include his wife, Prim (Gordon) Rock; step-sister, Margaret Vega; children, Kristina Fordham and spouse, Daniel, Rebecca Rock, MD, Michael Rock, and Timothy Rock; grandchildren, Abbey Turner, Shane Fordham, Mark Fordham, Elyse Yun, Henry Yun, and Zachary Rock; great-grandchildren, Xavier Fordham, Caliana Fordham, and Davis Turner; niece and nephews, Kate Lawliss, Matthew Bergeron, Esq., and Jason Bergeron; and numerous cousins. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at St. John’s Church in Keeseville with Rev. Guy F. “Bill” Edwards, celebrating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Roman Catholic Community of Keeseville.
