Leonard E. Swinton, 95, of Route 22 Mooers, died Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Ticonderoga, November 27, 1927, the son of Wesley and Frances (Huestis) Swinton. He was a graduate of Cornell University. Leonard served in the United States Army and earned an honorable discharge. He married the former Ada Porter, October 29, 1949 in Ticonderoga. Ada predeceased him, September 26, 2014. Leonard served as the area manager for Eastern Artificial Insemination Cooperative, Inc. for 25. He also owned and operated a used automobile dealership and Christmas tree farm in Mooers. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the VFW. He was a proud Republican and active with the local Republican Party. Leonard was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed canoeing, collecting firearms, and working. Left to cherish the memory of Leonard are, two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Christine Swinton, and Lance and Terri Swinton; grandchildren and their spouses, Kimberly Wells, Heather and Trey Burns, Rebecca and Matthew Fredette, Kayla Armstrong, and Savanah and Cale Frennier; great-grandchildren, Emma, Benjamin, Carter, and Madelyn Fredette, and Gaven Alford, Owhan Swinton, Keelan Frennier; one sister, Velma (Joseph) Rice; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was predeceased by a grandson-in-law, Victor Wells. There will be no public calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of his family. Donations in his memory may be made to the Mooers United Methodist Church. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers, 236-4747.
