Mae E. Mero, 88, of Willsboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the UVM – Elizabethtown Community Hospital.
She was born in Willsboro on February 28, 1935, the daughter of Lyman and Katherine (Shappy) Jaquish.
Mae was a Willsboro Resident for all her adult life, was well known for making her homemade Birthday and Wedding cakes for family and friends. Mae was a proud member of the Willsboro-Reber Ladies Auxiliary for 56 years and for 53 years she was the acting President. There were many times that she would rally her team of Ladies in the middle of the night to make the firefighters soup, sandwiches, and hot coffee to keep them going during a fire.
Left to cherish her memory are her three boys, Rickey J. Mero of Willsboro, Michael A. Mero, his spouse Jeffrey Desnoyers of Summerfield Florida, and Thomas C. Mero of Willsboro. Mae also had two Grandchildren, Rebecca Jones (Mero) spouse, Michael Jones of Tyngsborough MA, Zachary Mero of Altona;four Great Grandchildren, Stella Jones & Lillian Jones (12) Jaden Mero (12) and Cooper Mero (2). Mae also had several brothers, Vaughn Jaquish, Lawrence & Diana Jaquish (Crowningshield), Ronald & Mary Jaquish (Fowler), Gary Jaquish, Keith & Marybeth Mero (Blaise) and Mark Mero.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Howard J. Mero (2017) of 63 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from Noon to 2 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Prayer Service will follow at 2 PM in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon, Paul White, officiating. Graveside service to be announced in the spring.
Donations in memory of Mae E. Mero may be made to the Champlain Valley Senior Center activities department.
