Obituary of Eileen Ruth Powers

Eileen Ruth (Armstrong) Powers, 90, recently of The Villages, FL and formerly a Peru, NY resident, died Thursday morning March 16, 2023, with her loving children by her side in Plattsburgh NY. Eileen was born on December 14, 1932 in Colonie, NY and was the daughter of the late William Joseph and Mary Lydia (Vandenbergh) Armstrong. Eileen was a 1950 graduate of Notte Terrace high school and attended Cortland State Teachers' College before marrying Gerald C. Powers. A member of the Order of the Eastern Star, several quilt guilds, and the New Covenant Methodist Church, Eileen also enjoyed volunteering at the Wildwood, FL food pantry. Eileen retired from AuSable Valley Central School, then worked as Town Clerk for the Town of AuSable, and enjoyed her later years with her partner the late James E. Tessier. Eileen enjoyed quilting often creating lovely works for family, friends, "Prayers and Squares" at her church and for several charity organizations. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, golfing, working puzzles and travel. Eileen is predeceased by her first husband, Gerald C. Powers; her two brothers, Robert Edward and Donald William Armstrong; and her partner, James Tessier. She is survived by her seven children, Glenn C. Powers, Captain USN (ret) and wife, Susan of Portsmouth, RI; Thomas J. Powers, USAF (ret) and wife, Eileen C. of Harkness, NY; Douglas G. Powers and partner, Lynn McCarty of Plattsburgh, NY; E. Jane Emerson of Cadyville, NY Terry A. (Bernard) Powers-Phaneuf of Plattsburgh, NY; Beth E. (Siamak) Powers of Shelburne, VT; and Donna L. Powers of Plattsburgh, NY. Also missing her are 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, a nephew and several nieces, and numerous friends. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 1 to 3pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Rd, Peru, NY. Private burial will be held at a later date, per family discretion.
