I wanted to share this story about my father because I believe it exemplifies his spirit of wanted to be a giving person and if someone asked him for help and he could do it he did it.
Back in 1992 I had a friend who was out of highschool a couple years. She was the nice of a lady named Patty whom I thought the moon of; She was a dear friend's neighbor and the neighborhood baby sitter. I helped out with the kiddos; just by playing blocks or whatever they where into at the moment. I developed a bond with one of the kiddos she just wanted me to hold her or walk around with her and hold her hand She was just a little toddler little over a year.
Well her mom met a man, he was in the military in Nebraska and she had moved with the little baby to Wynore Nevraska about an hour outside Lincoln. It was sometime in the early summer late spring. At midnight I get a phone call (in the 90s if you got a phonecard after midnight you answered it was serious, and it was) patty had called to tell me that the babies mom had called the man had hurt her very badly and she was afraid for the safety of her child. Petty asked me if I would drive to Nebraska and go get the baby and bring her back to her so the mom could escape when she could. I said Yes but I need someone to go with me(I was 17 and i needed the ine person who would go if i asked at the drip of a hat). I asked my dad, he was in the military so if we had some problems I knew he'd help me.
So I went to your grandpa and told him what had happened. At the end i looked at him and said "will you go with me I got the money and you've got the car?" "My dad asked if it was my child? I smiled and said "no dad just a little girl who has no dad and I've spent a lot of time with her so she knows me and will be OK if I get her." It was an honest question.
Dad looked at me and said "get the keys, you drive all the way out ill drive all the way back. We took off Into the night. My father and I drive from Peru NY to a McDonalds parking lot in Wymore Nebraska, 1453 miles in about 18 hours. No problems now we just had to get this bundle of joy back to Patty. She was a sweet child and she was great the whole way home. We drove nonstop back to Plattsburgh we drove nearly 3000 miles in 36 hours for a child that wasn't mind and my father had no relation to, but my father loved his son and if I asked him for something (which wasn't often pride can be foolish)
He literally never hesitated to say yes even to something as wild as that was. He just looked at me and said he trusted me. Well I trusted him with every fiber of my being my dad was the only hero I've ever had I didn't. Need to find a great silver screen hero I had one walking and talking and I had his name. That is just one memory of my father's volunteerism his love for his family and above all we protect the ones who cannot protect themselves. Bob was many things but the one thing he was always, the most honorable man I'd ever met. I will walk through fire for my family because Dad did before me and his before him. I love you dad I will miss you but it won't ache with pain I have to many of these memories to flood my heart when I need it the most. Your son till eternity is no more, Robbie
PS. the mom and little child where reunited and the baby is 30 years old now and a mom of her own I see her from time to time, she doesn't remember me or my dad or I'm that road trip but it was all worth it to protect the innocent.

Enjoyed many good times with Bob and Dana Davis. One of which was when Bob got out of the Navy, we got together at the Raceway Restaurant and Bar. Bob, Dana and I. Bob had a new Thunderbird. When we left the bar, we headed to the Double M Restaurant and bar down the street towards Schuyler Falls. Dana explained to Bob that Bill Lawrence traveled across the field to get to the bar instead of using the road. What he forgot to tell him was that a barb wire fence had been installed and was there now. Bob immediately went across the field, The owner of the Double M bar was watching and said he never seen anything that funny. a new car coming across the field dragging posts and barb wire. It may have funny but also expensive. RIP and know you will be missed by many that loved you as a good friend.

Bobby was my cousin. He was enough older than I that I don' t have memories of him growing up, but I will always carry the memories in my heart of how kind he was to my family during a tough time in my life. He was in the Navy by then and always stopped by to visit when he came home; I can still see that smiling face at the door and can still feel the happiness that he brought with him. I never really talked about those visits with him, so I'm not sure that he knew how much they meant to all of us, but I believe that he did know anyway. I am sure that his pathway to Heaven was lined with all of the veterans in our family and all of his shipmates who went before him; they cheered him on his way. I loved you, Bobby, and will always hold you in my heart.

My condolence, sympathy, and prayer to Bob Woodward's family and friends. With me, Bob always share his love about his family, time he served in the U.S. Navy, all the Ford vehicles he owned, love to tell his real life stories, and talk about NASCAR. Bob has a big heart and always smile. Bob treated me like a family. I am forever grateful, honor, and bless to be a member of the "Wayward Woodward". I salute you, love you and miss you Bob! God Speed and Rest In Peace Bob!
With Love and empathy, Duncan & Beata Payne

Q: What will you never forget about Robert?
A: I'll never forget my grandfather nor will I never forget the years we got to share. What a man, one of the kindest individuals anyone could of met. Along with the racing stories I heard my whole childhood. I'll never forget the smile on his face watching his oldest grandson collect trophies in his go-kart. I'll never forget the look on my face and his face when I'd come barreling into turn 1 at Airborne Speedway. I'll always remember you and ill always cherish the memories we shared. Till we meet again. ❤️ Like I said to you poppy Bob I love you and ill see you I don't know when where or why but I'll see.
Love your grandson "the wheelman"

Q: What will you never forget about Robert?
A: My dad always made sure my brother and I had the best childhood. I remember weekends going to my aunt sue and uncle Barney in California where we also lived. We always seemed to end up at knots berry farm or Disney land just because. I remember weekends going to my auntie Millie and uncle arts in Wilmington California having barbecue, spending time laughing and making sure the kids had a blast. Or when he used to take my brother and I to riverside speedway for him to work and my brother and I digging in the dirt finding banners from previous races. My father was the best dad any kid could have asked for. I’m am going to miss him every day. I’ll miss his smile, his personality, his kindness, his stories, and the adventure we had when we were kids.

Our sympathy is sent to each of Bobby’s loved ones.
I can remember the day he came home from basic training. My mother drove us out to Peru to see him in his uniform. I remember she said he reminded her of another sailor, Uncle Leon. Bobby was proud to start his career in the service and I was so proud to be his young cousin.
Our love is sent to each of you at this very difficult time.
