Obituary of Robert Donald Velie

Robert Donald “Robbie” Velie, 21, of the Strackville Road, Saranac, died accidently, Saturday, February 11, 2023 at his residence alongside his beloved companion Katie, their unborn son, Oliver Robert and her son, Diesel, who he loved like his own. He was born in Plattsburgh, January 20, 2002, the son of Robert James and Kara Lydia (Vann) Velie. He grew up in Saranac, and graduated from Saranac High School in 2020, where he enjoyed and excelled in football wearing #66. Robbie worked construction for several years prior to beginning a career at Carpenter Bros. in Plattsburgh which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, construction work, operating equipment, and driving his father's jeep. Robbie was a caring and considerate son, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his willingness to always help those in need, without question. If help was needed Robbie was the guy to offer it, whether he knew you or not. Left to cherish the memory of Robbie are, his parents, Kara and Robert Velie; sisters, Kaelie (Hunter) Brien, and Liv Velie; nephew, Grayson; maternal grandparents, Veronica and Ron Vann; paternal grandmother, Marilyn Velie (Jim Furnia); many family members; and special friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Donald Robert Velie; and many aunts, uncles, and great grandparents. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 17, 2023 from 2 to 5 pm at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru. A prayer will be offered at the conclusion of the wake at 5 pm, in the church. A dinner reception will follow at the Saranac American Legion Post 1618, 275 Wilson Road, Saranac, NY 12981, for friends and family to gather and share stories while honoring and remembering them. Donations in his memory may be made to the established "Go Fund Me" account, to be used for a memorial and donations to those organizations that have been a blessing throughout this tragedy.
