Obituary of Thomas Raphael Irwin

Thomas Raphael Irwin, 79, of the John Boswell Road, Peru, died unexpectedly, Sunday, February 12, 2023, at his home with his loving daughter by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, February 25, 1943, the son of Raphael and Thelma (Peryea) Irwin. He grew up in Peru and graduated from Peru High School. He later attended Plattsburgh State University. He married the former Jane Bourdeau, October 8, 1972, in the Peasleeville Methodist Church. She predeceased him January 7, 2015. Tom was a truck driver for E.W. Tompkins in Plattsburgh for a few years prior to beginning a career with NYS Dept. of Corrections. He retired from Clinton in 2003 following 25 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed cutting wood, attending bluegrass festivals, collecting old cars, and raising basset hounds, however his true love was spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as “Pipi”. Tom was known for his outgoing personality and sense of humor. Left to cherish the memory of Tom are, his children from his first marriage, Timothy and Jeffrey Irwin; his daughters from his second marriage, Kelly Irwin, and Tomilyn Fenn and her husband, Michael; several grandchildren including, Blaine and Paige Roberts, and Julian and Gracie Fenn; brother, Larry Irwin and his companion, Valerie; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and James Pohorence; sister-in-law, Donna Harvey and her husband, Thomas; special nieces, Robin and Michelle; a dear friend, Robin Stein; and many other nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call, Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 4 to 5 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A prayer service will follow at 5 pm in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow at the Peru VFW Post 309. All are welcome.
