Obituary of Richard Steven Agoney

Richard Steven Agoney, Sr., 72, of the Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, died Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, August 25, 1950, the son of Nelson and Theresa (Boudrieau) Agoney. Richard graduated from Peru Central School in 1970. He worked in maintenance at Peru Central School for 38 dedicated years, prior to retiring in 2005. He married the former Deborah Ann Trombley, July 9, 2005 at their former home on Reservoir Road in Peru. Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 years, a member of the American Legion Post 1619 in West Plattsburgh, the Seniors Club, and The Moose Lodge in Zephyrhills, FL. He enjoyed going to Florida in the winter with Debbie along with traveling, playing pool and darts, playing golf with his buddies in Florida and camping at Blue Haven with family during the summer. Left to cherish the memory of Richard are, his loving wife of 18 years, Deborah Agoney; children, Richard and Jessica Agoney, Shawn Agoney and partner Karie LaPorte, Sarenia Agoney and Ronny Agnew; brothers, Raymond and Helen Agoney, Amos and Sandra Agoney, William Agoney and partner Theresa Allen; sister, Joanne and Paul Gainer; sister in law; Regina Agoney; step-daughters, Amanda and Casey Goddeau, Michelle Tucker and partner Greg Watts; brother-in-law, Robert and Cathy Trombley; sisters-in-law; Sandra Duell and the late Ronald Miner, and Rosemary and Joe Cappello; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Nelson and Theresa, he was predeceased by his brother Michael Agoney; sister-in-law, Patricia Howard; and brother-in-law, Stephen Trombley. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating. Committal prayers will be held at a later date in St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Peru. Donations in his memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 518-643-9055.
