
Obituary of Susan M. LaVarnway

Susan M. LaVarnway, 71, of Burnt Hill Road, Cadyville passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.
She was born in Plattsburgh, NY on January 1st 1951, the daughter of William and Shirley Herwerth.
Susan was a woman of many passions; she took great pride in being a mother to her two sons who she loved and cherished so much. She loved to cook; and in her younger years she loved making maple syrup, and had a passion for gardening. Susan attended nursing school at Clinton Community College and graduated at the top of her class fulfilling her lifetime dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. Susan worked at CVPH and for several local physicians. Susan was an avid sailor, winning the Portsmouth Cup on Lake Champlain and enjoyed the Adirondacks and called Burnt Hill her oasis.
Left to cherish her memory is the love of her life, her husband of 53 years, Donald LaVarnway; Their two sons Dean (Floreen) and Scott LaVarnway; siblings, Cheryl Abbott-Bohenek of Albany, NY, Linda Castrance of Cohoes, NY, Deborah Balzano, Prescott, AZ, Harry Herwerth of Prescott AZ, and Rodney Herwerth of Aurora, CO; brothers-in-law, Greg LaVarnway, Dale (Helen) LaVarnway, and William Cox; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Defayette and Mary Lou (Gerd) Kinert; nephew; Kenny (Brandi) Herwerth; as well as many nieces, nephews and many great friends.
In addition to her parents, Susan was predeceased by her brother, William (Joanne) Herwerth; sister-in-law, Deanna Cox; and brother-in-law, Gary LaVarnway.
Honoring her wishes there will be no public calling hours; services for her family will be private.
