I loved how he would come to literally every parent/teacher conference, with clearly high expectations for his children. He would often look gruff or grumpy and at first was off putting - it took me a bit to “figure him out”. Over the years I came to understand that he was as we say “a stand up guy” - who would give his best for friends, family and those in need. As his daughters would say - “just a big teddy bear”. His family was a family where I was flabbergasted by how they raised 4 great kids - they could have made a fortune if they could copy the process.
And I always felt bad for his daughters boyfriends … I’m guessing they learned “yes sir” and “no sir” very quickly. I will miss him and am better having known him.

As a teacher who had the great privilege to work with their children, I could ALWAYS count on seeing the Mark and Susan at every parent-teacher conference. I always enjoyed seeing them and I deeply appreciated the ways that they encouraged me. Their unfailing support of their children was an inspiration.
Rest in peace, Mark. You did good work.
