Obituary of Larry Cabana

Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lawrence Edward “Larry” Cabana, 65, of the Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, died Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Northampton, MA, on July 21, 1957, the son of Francis Floyd and Lillian (Young) Cabana. He grew up in Northampton until his family moved to Hoosick Falls, NY, in 1967. He graduated from Hoosick Falls Central School in 1976. He then attended Adirondack Community College where, in addition to being a member of the school’s basketball team, he graduated with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice in 1976. After graduating, Larry served in several positions as a member of the law enforcement community for the next 32 years. He began as a police officer with the Hoosick Falls Police Department, before becoming a Corrections Officer working first at Auburn Correctional, then transferring to Great Meadow. After three and half years, Larry became an officer with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, where he would remain until his retirement in 2011. Larry always brought common sense, consideration, and kindness to his positions in law enforcement. He always looked at the bigger picture and used genuine judgment through the years. Larry would take those same sensibilities that had served him in law enforcement when he was elected as a Town Justice for Peru, NY, in 2014, and then reelected in 2018. Larry was an avid outdoorsman, spending as much time as he could spare hunting on the land that he loved. A great basketball player, he spent many years playing with the same group of great guys at the local YMCA, developing friendships that continued until his passing. He also took yearly hunting trips to Ohio with his friends, Glen, Joe, and Bill. Thank you Randall, Jon, Gary, Moe, Dan and Mike for being such great friends. Additionally, he and his wife were attendees of the Nazarene Church of Plattsburgh, NY. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 23 years, Martha Anne “Marti” Arnold Burdo; his son, Adam of Hoosick Falls, NY, and his daughter, Ashley (CJ) of Easthampton, MA; his brothers, Francis, Jr. of Queensbury, Bruce (Cindy) of Glens Falls, NY, and sister, Jocelyn (Kevin) Ryan, of Hoosick Falls, NY; brothers-in-law, Philip Arnold (Mary) Grand Junction, Michigan, Calvin Arnold, Richard Arnold (Donna), Tim Arnold (Jeanne) all of Peru, New York; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents and parents-in-law, Corinne and Norman Arnold, his youngest brother, Christopher, and his brother-in-law, Alan Arnold. There will be no public calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 10 am at the Nazarene Church, 187 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, New York. Donations in his memory may be made to Elmore’s SPCA, PO Box 686, Peru, New York, 12972. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
