Obituary of Francis J. "Frank" Dumas

Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Francis J. "Frank" Dumas, 67, of Fairbanks Road, Champlain, passed away on July 26, 2022 following a long courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully at his home with loving family by his side under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Frank was born on September 12, 1954, in Plattsburgh, to Francis and Lorena (Ashline) Dumas. He grew up in Champlain, and graduated from NCCS in 1972. He attended North Country Community College before he began his career at Wyeth in the Maintenance Department. On September 7, 1974, Frank married Roxie Trombley and together they had two children, Jenelle and Tyson. They were together until her untimely death in 2003. In 2005 Frank met Carol Brunet and they were married October 6, 2012, at St. Anne's Shrine. Carol was his strength and motivation through his entire fight with cancer. Frank worked for many years at Wyeth and then Pfizer, holding many positions within the Maintenance Department. Upon his retirement, you could see Frank mowing lawns all around town, something he truly enjoyed doing. Frank had a passion and love for coaching. He began coaching his children for the Mooers Youth Commission and later became the Youth Commissioner for the town, a position he held for quite a few years. He then moved to coaching for NCCS. During his over 40-year career he coached Modified and JV Boys Basketball, JV Softball, Girls Modified and Varsity Basketball and JV Boys Soccer. During his 2015-16 season of coaching the Varsity Girls basketball team and leading them to a quarter final state championship game, he was diagnosed with cancer. Frank continued to be the head coach for basketball for another year, continued to co-coach until 2021 and was still the JV Soccer coach until 2021. He will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind coach whose voice could be heard for quite a distance. He touched the lives of many young athletes, providing them with great life lessons that sports can teach, encouraging and motivating them to not only be better athletes but also to be a better all-around person. Frank's family meant the world to him. When he wasn't on the soccer field or in the gym, he was cooking up the best meals for his family and friends. He loved to sit, visit, and could tell a great story. His quick one-liners and his famous grin will be cherished by his family for generations to come. His favorite past time was watching his grandchildren play the sports he loved so much. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Carol, his daughter Jenelle of VT, his son Tyson (Kerri) of Mooers, his stepchildren, Tyler (Jessica) Bechard of Mooers Forks, Magan (Clint) McCool of Rouses Point, and Malinda (Joel) Laurin of Plattsburgh, his loving sister, Barbara Brydges of Naples FL, a stepfather Jeffrey Lees of Bryn Mawr, PA and 5 brothers-in-law, Phil Koenig of Westerville, OH, Dale (Darlene) Brunet, Ronnie (Betty) Brunet, and Steven (Candy) Brunet all of Ellenburg and Gilles (Nancy) Brunet of Massena. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Tess and Gage Dumas, Casey and Nolan Gonyo all of Mooers, Ava, Jayden and Hadley Bechard of Mooers Forks, and Irelyn, Killian and Finn McCool of Rouses Point as well as several nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by father, Francis Dumas and mother Lorena (Dumas) Lees, a sister Lynn Koenig who passed on July 8, 2022, parents-in-law, Ron and Jacqueline Trombley, and Maurice and Rita Brunet, and two brothers-in-law, Claude Brunet and Bill Brydges.
