Shirley Ann (Leege) Leahy, 81, of Pleasant Street, Peru, died Monday, June 6, 2022 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh. Shirley was born on July 13, 1940, in Rochester, N.Y. the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Cooke) Leege. On June 6,1959, she was married to Bob Leahy in the Presbyterian Church in Champlain, N.Y. After several moves, they eventually made their home in Rouses Point until relocating to Peru in the early seventies where they remained for almost fifty years. For twenty-five years she was employed as a Teacher’s Assistant at Peru Central School. Shirley was an active member of the Sweet Adelines and a Junior League member of the Ladies Guild. She was also an active member in the Peru Community Church and in various civil organizations in the community. Her hobbies included going to her exercise classes and building and decorating doll houses. Shirley enjoyed traveling the world over and could not wait to plan for her newest adventures. She also enjoyed golfing and camping. Cooking was a passion of hers, as well as experimenting with new recipes. She won many blue ribbons at the Clinton County Fair for her efforts in both cooking and her arts and crafts entries. She adored her family more than anything, and in particular her grandchildren as they were the apple of her eye. Shirley is survived by her husband Bob, her son Scott, son-in-law, Chuck, and her seven grandchildren Nicholas Callioras, Quentin Leahy, Trevor Leahy, Kristen Callioras, Brooke (Callioras) Tarar, Bria Leahy and Sean Leahy. She was predeceased by her daughter, Robin. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Peru Community Church or Boston Children’s Hospital. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
