Obituary of Thomas Ignatius Hogan

Thomas Ignatius Hogan, 84, of Duxbury, MA and, more recently, of Route 9N, Keeseville, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT with his loving family by his side. The son of Paul and Rose (Medeiros) Hogan, Thomas was born in Cambridge, MA on February24, 1938. He grew up in Natick and attended Northeastern, where he played on the hockey team. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Margaret, and was soon drafted into the Army where he was stationed in Japan.  Upon his return, he joined the Local Pipefitters Union 537, working his way up the ranks from an apprentice pipefitter to a construction manager. Throughout his career, he worked on some of the largest development projects in the US and Canada, eventually retiring from the Big Dig in Boston.  Throughout his life, Tom was also a master wood carver, and his work was well-known on the South Shore of Massachusetts.  He taught wood carving for many years in Duxbury and Marshfield, and his students became life-long friends. Many sought out his work at the annual Marshfield Fair, where he was honored as Volunteer of Year in 2018. Tom was also passionate about gardening, reading, fishing, birdwatching, and storytelling. His witty stories will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He truly was a friend to many. Tom is lovingly remembered by his daughter LeeAnne Ruff and her husband Jon of Keeseville, NY, along with his son Timothy Hogan and his wife Darla of Veneta, OR. He is also missed by his adoring grandchildren, Jordan (Alyssa) Ruff, Jenna(Brian) Drollette, Justus Ruff, Julia Ruff, Rebecca Hogan, and great-grandchildren, Owen, Alton, Everett, Violet, Oliver, Lillian, and Clara. In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his brother John Hogan and the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Margaret. Relatives and friends are invited to call on June 18, 2022, from 1 to 3 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating. Donations in memory of Thomas Hogan may be made to Cranberry Hospice of Plymouth MA in honor of his dear Margaret. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, NY, 643-9055.
