Obituary of Burton "Joey" Owen, Jr.
Burton Alexander “Joey” “Coyote Joe” Owen, Jr., 75, of the Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, died Friday, April 29, 2022 at his home, under the loving care of his wife, children, and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Tampa, Florida, September 26, 1946, the son of Burton, Sr. and Virginia (Loose) Owen. Joey graduated from Peru Central School. Following graduation he served his country proudly with the United States Army from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1968. Joey worked for the NYS Dept. of Corrections for more than 30 years, prior to retiring from Clinton Correctional Facility. In addition to his career in corrections, he built and remodeled countless homes throughout the North Country. Joey was a selfless and loving husband, father, “poppy”, friend, and mentor. He was always quick to help anyone in need. He was an avid outdoorsman and excellent marksman. Joey enjoyed fishing and was especially passionate about hunting coyotes. Baseball was an important part of his life too. He was a long-time and devoted NY Yankees fan. He will be immeasurably missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish the memory of Joey are, his loving wife, Brenda Taft; daughter, Kelly Owen and her partner, Dustin Blockson; son, Chad Owen and his partner, Susan Gerace Mossey; and his adorning grandchildren, Megan, Hailey, and Brooke Wyand, and Abbigail and Mathew Owen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Paula Renadette. At Joey’s request there will be no public calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held in early June at the family camp. In lieu of flowers, his family request donations in his memory be made to Hospice of the North Country and mailed to their office at 358 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901.
