Jim hired me as a full-time reporter after I had only freelanced for the paper several times. Not only was I in need of a job, but I needed the experience the Press -Republican could offer. I had no idea where I was headed. I was happy to be there reporting from Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. This job taught me so much and offered me a wide range of experiences. It was fun at a time in my life when I was hungry to work, learn, write and experience. When I faced a very difficult personal period, Jim saw it and reached out to me. His help and support were invaluable. I will never forget. I will also never forget his ability to laugh! I owe Jim and his management staff during my years at the paper a debt of gratitude. Looking back, it was the best combination of fun and demand of my varied career.

Jim always made you feel like he was so happy to see you. His friendly energy was such a wonderful part of the baseball fields and town of Peru. He will be missed. Sending our love to his family, The Kneussles

My name is Rhonda Bryant nee Dynko, Jim adopted me along with my brothers in 1977. There is one memory I would like to share that happened in 1981. I was babysitting a toddler outside of plattsburgh, no car, no close neighbors. The family's dog got into the garbage and was choking on a bone. I was panicked and didn't know what to do. I called Jim at work and interrupted his meeting, when I told him Pepper was choking, he abruptly left that meeting to help the dog. He picked us up and we were able to get her to the vet in time to have the bone dislodged.. Going back, that dog had the worst odor imaginable but held it and made it in time Jim said she was a good girl for holding her functions. I felt guilty about interrupting an important meeting, but he told me it was OK. He couldn't stand to have an animal suffer . He had a golden heart and the family was thankful. He was reimbursed for the vet bill, but in the end, he was thankful that he was able to help save another creature . Been estranged from you Jim for many years, but that memory is vivid in my mind.

Mr Dynko was such a huge part of the community. From going to my son’s baseball games or any of the local schools games, too always taking the time to have a conversation with you when you ran into him. I will miss the daily drives he took when he would always go up our road and pass my house with a big smile and wave. My heart goes out too Connor, Karly and the rest of his family and friends. You will be missed Jim.

What a legacy Jim leaves. Got to know him in past few years, he offered to help me edit the book I’m working on and graciously agreed to allow me to interview him for Senior Sentinel. Oh what stories he had! Enjoyed our coffee together at Stewart’s. Thanks Jim and God bless.
