Obituary of Leon Raymond Duprey

Leon Raymond Duprey, 79, of the Miller Road, Mooers Forks, died Wednesday, April 6, 2022, peacefully at his home. Leon was born in Mooers, April 21, 1942, the son of Edward J. and Evelyn A. (Favreau) Duprey. Leon lived all his life in Mooers, NY. He was known for being an active member of his community and never shied away from hard work. He had many jobs throughout the years including the family farm and working with his father and uncle's sawmill as many knew as Duprey's Lumber. He also continued his labors at Roger's Wood Products and did custodial work for the Northeastern Central School district. In addition, he simultaneously worked for St. Ann's Church and for the Town of Mooers. Leon had many passions, but his most notable ones are the love of country music especially Crystal Gayle and many others. He enjoyed visiting with folks, watching baseball and football, going camping, playing cards, dancing and spending time with his family. He was also passionate about traveling to Florida each year. Left to cherish the memory of Leon are, his wife of 55 years, the former Sharon Mildred Behan, whom he married, January 28, 1967 at St. Mary's Church in Champlain, NY; his five children, Lisa (Karl) DeLong of Mooers Forks, NY, Rebecca (Christopher) Hill of Hemmingford, Quebec, Charlene (Ted) Breuer of Mooers Forks, NY, James Duprey and his fiance, Crystal Berrios of Brooklyn, NY, and Ashley Duprey of Hemmingford, Quebec; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, four brothers and four sisters: Donald Duprey (Janice) of Mooers, NY, Raymond Duprey of Plattsburgh, NY, Msgr. Dennis J. Duprey of Peru, NY, Gerald Duprey (Mary) of Plattsburgh, NY, Diane Kozlowski (Steve) of Rochester, NY, Susan Merchant (Steve) of Rouses Point, NY, Joanne Caufield (Mike) of Knoxville, TN, and Betty Lapierre (Tom) of Mooers, NY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Duprey; sister-in-law, Linda Duprey; and most recently his uncle, Douglas Duprey. Calling hours will be held Monday, April 18, 2022 from 3 to 6 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 10:30 am at St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks with Msgr. Dennis J. Duprey, celebrating his life. Committal prayers and entombment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Mooers. Donations in his memory may be made to Saint Ann's Church and the Mooers Fire Department. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers, 236-4747.
