Obituary of Robert E. Hawksby
Robert E. Hawksby, 85, of Altona, NY, and Zephyrhills, FL, passed away on February 28, 2022, at Wesley Chapel Hospital in Florida. Robert was born July 7, 1936 in Mooers, NY, the son of Thomas A. and Marion (Forkey) Hawksby. He graduated from Mooers Central School. He worked at Diamond International and Pactiv Corp. in Plattsburgh, NY for 42 years. Robert enjoyed watching his children play many sports and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, garage sales, going to the casino, playing cards, rooting for the Boston Red Sox, and spending winters in Florida and summers in Altona at Stonewall. Robert was a volunteer fireman for 20 years with the Mooers Fire Department. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley E. Hawksby; his sons and daughter, Ray (Diane) Hawksby, Holly (Dean) Burnell, Thomas (Nancy) Hawksby, Dale (Shirley) Hawksby; grandchildren, Hilary (David) Deans, Heather Hawksby and companion (Tyler Davison), Aaron Hawksby and companion (Emily Hoeh), Dean Jr. (Jennifer Burnell), Danny Burnell, Amon (Heather) Reid, Joshua (Becky) Reid, Kendra and (Kyle) Gertsch, and Heidi Marking; great-grandchildren, Max, Eli, Kristen, Cameran, McKenzie, Adam, Adalyn, Casen, and Jayla; sister, Janet Roberts; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Myrtle Hawksby; and several nieces, nephews and cousins Robert was predeceased by his parents, Thomas A. and Marion Hawksby; sister, Joyce and brother in-law, Osborne Gordon; and brother in-law, Ronald Roberts. Calling hours will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 5 to 7 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11 am at the Mooers United Methodist Church. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the Union Cemetery in Mooers Forks.
