Obituary of Joshua Edward Gushlaw

Joshua Edward Gushlaw, 31, of Mason Street, Morrisonville, died Sunday, February 20, 2022, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident. He was born in Plattsburgh, April 10, 1990, the son of Richard “Rick” Gushlaw and the former Lisa Lacey. Josh graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 2008. He proudly served his country for four years enlisting into the United States Marine Corps. in 2008, until his honorable discharge in 2012. Josh earned numerous medals and badges during his military service while completing two tours overseas. Josh’s medals include two campaign medals, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Meal, National Defense Ribbon and the Combat Action Ribbon. Josh was also recognized for his dedication and good conduct during his service and received the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. Following his discharge from the Marine Corps., he began higher education at Plattsburgh State University and graduated in 2014, with a Bachelor's Degree Expeditionary Studies. Following graduation, he began his career with the NYS Police, having graduated from the academy in 2016, and was assigned to Troop B at SP Plattsburgh, where he continued to serve his hometown. He served proudly until his untimely passing. His service and dedication will forever be honored by his brothers and sisters in grey. Josh married the former Katie McCasland, September 22, 2018 at the Gold Room in Altona New York. He was a member of The American Legion Post 1619. He enjoyed being outside and spending time with friends and family. His most treasured time was spent with his two sons, Maverick and Jaxx. Left to cherish the memory of Josh, are, his wife, Katie Gushlaw; two children, Maverick (2) and Jaxx (1); mother and step-father, Lisa and Mark Gadway; father and step-mother, Rick and Dawn Gushlaw; brother, Kris Gushlaw; step-brother, Thomas Rocque and his wife, Jennifer; maternal grandmother, Beverly Lacey; paternal grandmother, Sylvia Gushlaw; parents-in-law, Jeff and Rebecca McCasland; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, Avelyn, Elena, Anna, Ellie, Brennan, and Becka; and nephews, Rogan, and Nicholas. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Richard Gushlaw; maternal grandfather, Edward Lacey; and step-sister, Jessica Rocque. Calling hours will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 4 to 7 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 25, 2022 at 10 am at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh with Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating. Military and State Police honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to NYSP Signal 30. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
