David T. Sears, 55, of Mud Pond Road, Peru, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on December 20, 1966 the son of Thomas and Caroline (Lucia) Sears. David attended Peru High School (Class of 1985), and SUNY Canton. Once he found the love of his life, Sonya Sears, he became a Correction Officer at Dannemora State Prison, and started a family. Not only did he buy a mountain, but he built his own family home on the top. When David wasn't helping others he enjoyed fishing, working on vehicles, and spending time with his family. Grizzly Dave/Superman/Dad will always be an example to his family and friends of how to live life to its fullest and to be kind, but also stir the pot! Left to cherish David's memory are, his wife of 30 years, Sonya (Southmayd) Sears; daughters, Megan Sears, and Erin Sears; father, Tom Sears; sisters, Tammy Catlin, and Carlene Heipel; mother-in-law, Carole Southmayd; and all his nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother (2020), he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Earl Southmayd (2019). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 2 pm at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with the Rev. Scott R. Seymour, celebrating. Following the Mass there will be a gathering at the Butcher Block in Plattsburgh at 5 pm. Donations in his memory may be made to a scholarship fund to be established at Peru Central School. Checks can be made payable to Sonya Sears. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
