
Obituary of Ricky Jack Covey

A fighter until the end, Ricky “Rick” Covey, 64, of Smokey Ridge, Plattsburgh, passed away on January 8, 2022, surrounded by family, following a lengthy battle with multiple illnesses.
He was born in Plattsburgh, September 18, 1957, the son of Jack Covey and the late, Nancy (Ducatte) Hobbs. He grew up in West Chazy, and graduated from Beekmantown Central School in 1976. He participated in football while at Beekmantown.
Rick was a well-known local general contractor for many years and built many area homes during his career.
He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed golfing, coaching, enjoying local sports, traveling with his daughter Erika to watch her play basketball, cheering on his daughter Melissa at her running events, vacationing, and family gatherings where he was always the cook. In earlier years he enjoyed, snowmobiling, atving, camping, boating, and hunting.
Left to cherish the memory of Rick are, daughters, Melissa (Justin) Stricker, and Erika (Kevin) Yelle; granddaughter, Braelynn Yelle; his father, Jack Covey; brother, Jayson (Lisa) Covey; sister, Jessica (Laurie Briggs) Covey; and nieces/nephew.
Rick was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Hobbs; and sisters, Barb Mangold, and Laurie McKinnon.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 4 to 5 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Rick's final resting place will be at St. Augustine's Cemetery in Peru.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Foundation of CVPH, in Rick’s name.
