Obituary of C. Duane Waterman

C. Duane Waterman, 94, of Peru, more recently of Saratoga Springs, died Monday, January 3, 2022 at the Saratoga Hospital. He was born in Watertown, NY on January 26, 1927, the son of Arthur and Geneva (Fee) Waterman. Duane grew up on a farm in Barns Corners, NY. He served in the United States Navy in WWII in both Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He married his high school sweetheart and they bought the farm from his parents. After selling the farm, Duane moved the family to Peru and worked in Plattsburgh for Eastern Airlines. He then worked for the USPS in Plattsburgh until retirement. He was active in Peru Community Church, Peru Lion's Club, and many community events. He was a ham radio operator, an avid golfer, and a gifted artist. After retirement, he and Elsie spent many winters in Florida. After Elsie's death, he moved to Woodlawn Commons in Saratoga Springs to be closer to family in that area. Left to cherish his memory are 2 daughters, Diane Waite in Glenville, NY, and Julie (Curtis) Ellis in Florissant, MO. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Elsie Waterman (2018), one brother, and one great grandchild (2021). Relatives and friends are invited to call January 17, 2022 from 3 to 5 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will be held January 18, 2022 at 10 AM at the Peru Community Church, 12 Elm Street, Peru, with Rev. Peggi J. Eller, presiding. Burial in God’s Acre Cemetery with Military Honors will be in June 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Duane Waterman may be made to the Peru Community Church. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
