Obituary of Edward Joseph Gardner

Edward Joseph "Ed" "Bub" Gardner, 72, of School Street, Essex, NY was called into the Lord's arms on December 14, 2021, surrounded by his girls and loving wife. Ed was born in Elizabethtown, July 6, 1949, to his parents Edward James and Flora (Jerdo) Gardner. Ed was very active in his community. He worked at NYCO Minerals for 24 years, eventually branching out starting his own heavy equipment repair company. He served many years on the Essex Town Council and most recently was Supervisor. Ed was also very active for nearly 40 years in the BPOE Elks, rising to the level of Exalted Ruler and the State Vice President. He was a former member of the local Knights of Columbus, finding comfort in his faith. Ed was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying farming, gardening, hunting and camping, along with NASCAR. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Above all Ed held family in the highest regard. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Flora, and his brother John. Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia (Blanchard) and his four daughters, "The Gardner Girls" and their families; Sandra and Darrell Delong and son Gavin; Melissa Gardner and son Allen Cahill; Teresa and Kyle Lemieux; Amanda and Justin Buck and daughters, Abigail and Catherine. He is additionally survived by his brothers, James Gardner, and Allen (Tina) Gardner; sisters, Elizabeth Moulton, Ellen (David) Dillworth, Margaret Sayward and Jenny (John) Metcalf; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 from 4 to 6 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. As 6 pm approaches members of the Keeseville Elks Lodge will offer their service, followed by a prayer service lead by Deacon Paul White. A reception will follow Friday evening at the Keeseville Elks Lodge. All are welcome to join Ed's family to continue to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Willsboro Essex Rescue Squad, Elks or Essex Community fund, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
