Frederick H. "Fred" Thwaits, 93, of Golf Course Road, AuSable Forks, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29th, 2021 at the Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Plattsburgh. He was born in Clintonville on October 17th, 1928 the son of William and Dora (Currier) Thwaits. Fred graduated from Keeseville High School in 1947. He married Harriet Breen on May 1st, 1954 in AuSable Forks. Together they had two sons. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on October 17th, 1950 (His 22nd birthday), and received an Honorable Discharge on August 31st, 1956. After that he went to work at Murphy's sawmill before getting a job at Lake Placid Granite Co. in AuSable Forks. He worked there for 20+ years as a crane operator. After retiring from "The Quarry" he found that he was bored and needed to do something more, so he went to work for A.V.C.S. system at Keeseville Elementary School as a custodian, where he met a whole new circle of friends that loved him dearly. He retired from there in December of 1991 as head custodian. He knew at this point he could not put off Harriet's honey-do list any longer. So he got busy working on that, while helping his boys with whatever projects they had going on, but always making sure that Harriet and him were available for whatever babysitting duties were needed for the Grandkids. He always had a beaming smile, but that smile left on October 24th, 2007 when Harriet passed away, and he has been counting the days ever since that he could be reunited with her again. Survivors include sons: Frederick Thwaits (Madeline) and Thomas Thwaits (Jane); sister: Barbara Lawrence; grandchildren: Jessie (Steve) Stillwell, Jennifer Thwaits, Jaime Thwaits, Brandy (Randy) Ducatte, and Kristy Thwaits Duell; great-grandchildren: Kylee Stillwell, Koree Stillwell, Thomas J. Thwaits, Kaden Thwaits, Latalya (Tally) Duell, Brenna Ducatte, and Theran Ducatte; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Harriet (Breen) Thwaits (2007); and his brother, William Thwaits, Jr. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Fairview Cemetery, Golf Course Road, AuSable Forks, with Rev. Ginnie Pierce offering committal prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Frederick H. Thwaits may be made to the Clintonville United Methodist Church. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
