Roger Lee Sample, 74, of the Cannons Corners Road, Mooers Forks, died Sunday, November 28, 2021, at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh, March 23, 1947, the son of the late, David Sr and Alma (Gadway) Sample. Roger grew up in Cannons Corners and graduated from Mooers Central School in 1966. He married the former Sally Ann Roberts, on Valentine’s Day, 1970. Roger was a lifelong dairy farmer, maple syrup producer, and operated a sawmill alongside his beloved brother Alton (Ally) until Roger’s health declined in this past year. Roger and Ally worked along with their father David Sr for many years until his death. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and charter member of the Mooers Forks Fire Dept. Station #2 in Cannons Corners. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Dale, Sr., and enjoyed family road trips, especially the road trip to California to see the Giant Redwoods and the Grand Canyon. Roger was a good and kind man who was known to his brothers as “Jack”. Everyone considered him a hard worker who would do anything for anyone. He loved time with family and friends, and loved to laugh. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Left to cherish the memory of Roger are, his wife of 51 years, Sally; children, Scott Roger, Timothy Lee (Jimmy), Roxanne Elizabeth (Billy), and Jason Michael (Angelique); grandchildren, Austin, Alexis, Avery, Aiden, Bailey, Avery, Micah, and Nya; siblings, Norma Rabideau, David, Jr., Alton (Sandy); two sisters-in-laws, Scarlett and Denise, his many treasured nieces, nephews, and friends. His puggle Lucy was always by his side during his illness and she will miss him. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Bruce and George; brother-in-law, Donald Rabideau; sister-in-law, Sharron, and in laws Joseph George and Dora Filion. Roger also was predeceased by his pug Annie. There will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A celebration of life for Roger will take place in the spring/summer in an outside arena due to Covid. Masks are encouraged for the Mass for everyone’s safety. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice of the North Country or the Mooers Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers, 236-4747.
