Orville J “Moon” “Big O” Keyes 59 of the Barney Downs Rd, Peru, passed away Saturday November 27th, 2021 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, November 11, 1962, the son of the late James R. and Mildred M. (Russell) Keyes. Orville worked for the Town of Peru Highway Department for 22 plus years. Prior to that he worked for Everett Orchards in Peru. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and jokester. His passion for fun and laughs was evident in the way he always picked on everyone he met. His true passion was his family and his grandkids. He enjoyed camping, taking rides around the block, keeping candy in his truck for the grandkids, grilling family dinners and Saturday night country gold around a campfire. Survivors include the love of his life, Debbie (Betters) Keyes of 36 years, whom he married May 25th 1985; children, Benjamin Keyes (Cassey) of Peru, and Katie Babbie (Eric) of Peru; grandchildren, Jackson, Jagger, and Axel Keyes, and Olivia “Lil O” Babbie; siblings, Debbie (Brad) Eaton of Waterford, PA, Sue (Rolland) Tromblee of Peru, John (Elizabeth) Keyes of Burnt Hills, NY, Jeffrey (Amy) Keyes of Ellenburg Center, and Sara (Lonnie) Armes of Peru; Debbie’s siblings, Pattie (Ron) Coolidge of Phoenix AZ, Kathy Shelly of Peru, and Joe Shelly of Peru; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Orville was predeceased by his sister, Marion Keyes; his in-laws, Frank and Dorothy (Nugent) Betters; grandparents, Orville and Phyllis Keyes, and Henry and Lillian Russell; and nephews, Michael Keyes and Shawn Coolidge. There will be no calling hours however as a tribute to Orville’s life there will be an honor ride in memory of him at a future date for anyone wanting to participate. Details of that will be forthcoming. The family also will plan a celebration of Orville’s life is the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Orville J. Keyes can be made to any organization of one’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
