Helen Smith

Obituary of Helen Louise Smith

On November 11, 2021, Helen Smith, gained her wings and ended her journey on earth by reuniting with the love of her life, Willis Smith, III, as they strolled hand in hand to heaven. Helen was born in Middletown, June 2, 1944, the daughter of the late Theodore and Marion (Lewis) Cobb. She married Willis H. Smith, III, February 26, 1967 in Montague, New Jersey. Helen and Willis moved to the North Country in 1968 and settled in North Bangor and Malone. Helen was a special education teacher and worked for Franklin-Essex-Hamilton Boces for 35 years. She was a strong advocate for children with special needs and loved the children in her classroom as her own. Helen enjoyed life to the fullest and love to make people laugh. She believe the greatest inventions were velcro, duct tape, bungee cords, and W-D 40 - there was not much she couldn't fix with these items. Helen enjoyed musicals, Disney movies, and music. In her younger years, she could be found performing in musicals and winter carnivals in Malone. Helen's favorite roles were that of a doting wife, a devoted mother, and an amazing grandmother. Left to cherish the memory of Helen are her brother, Richard (Barb) Cobb of Clyde, NY; brother-in-law, Peter (Sue) Smith of Port Jervais, NJ; four children, Willis (Bill) Smith, IV and his wife, Amy, Elizabeth Jost and her husband, Eric, Sarah Diorio and her husband, Brian, and Charles Smith; seven grandchildren, Daniel "DJ" Evans, Zoe Diorio, Raven Diorio, Xavier Diorio, Xander Diorio, Abigail Jost, and Willis "Billy" Smith, V; one great granddaughter, Addilyn Pannhurst; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Her honorary son, Eli Law who brought such love, light and laughs into the last weeks of her life. Her "soul sisters", Diane Childs, Andrea Trombley, Gayle Debyah, Mona Siskavich, Arlene Abare, Linda Hanna, Diane Hooper, Sue Leach, and Michelle Rosa. Her chosen "little brothers", Steve Mulverhill, Jay Johnston, Ron Noreault, and Kevin Higgins.
