Obituary of Tom Sears

Beekmantown: Earl “Tom” Sears, 74, passed away peacefully in his apartment at his daughter and son-in-law's home (430 O'Neil Road) in West Chazy, under the care of Hospice of the North Country, on October 25, 2021 surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with numerous illnesses. He was born in Plattsburgh, on March 22, 1947. He is the youngest of eleven children, born to Henry Sr and Florence Sears (Rivers). Tom graduated from Beekmantown Central School. Tom was employed by Morrisonville Construction, Clinton County Landfill and was the Highway Superintendent in the Town of Beekmantown for 20 years. He was also employed by The Gorman Group and served as the council person for the Town of Beekmantown and Clinton County Legislator. Tom was a member of the following organizations: Adirondack Slow Pitch Umpire, Sons of the American Legion Post 1619, Director and Past President of the Clinton County Fair, Town of Beekmantown and Clinton County Republican Committee, NYS Association of Town Superintendents of Highway President 2007, Clinton/Essex/Franklin/St. Lawrence County Highway Association. Tom received recognition from Elise Stefaniak for his community service. He recently received an Honorary Life Member Award from NYS Association of Town Superintendents of Highways Inc. He was only the second person to receive this award in the state’s history. He most recently received recognition from the Clinton County Legislator for his lifetime achievements. Tom enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, coaching CYO basketball, umpiring slow pitch, golf, raising animals, operating heavy equipment, helping on the farm, camping, spending time in Florida and meeting his friends for coffee. Tom is survived by his wife Mary Barber, of 52 years, his daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Ricky Jubert (Morrisonville), Tammy and Randy Spoor (West Chazy), granddaughter Liz Rawleigh and her husband Kolby and great-grandson Brantley (all of Plattsburgh). Also surviving Tom are his sisters Chic Renedette and Regina (Walter) Coryea both of Morrisonville, brother-in law James Gordon of Oklahoma, several nieces, nephews and close friends. Tom was preceded by his parents, siblings and spouses: Frances and Remi Corron, Fred and Helen Sears, Henry and Theresa Sears, Zephyr Sears, Laah and Lloyd Sorrell, Liz and Edmund Dupell, Amy and Robert Catellier, Marie Gordon, Victor Renedette, father-in-law and mother-in-law Bernard and Dorothy Barber. Tom's family would like to extend a special thank you to all the medical professionals that cared for him including the staff at the HF Freedom Renal Center in Plattsburgh. He fought the fight, but lost this round. Rest in Peace. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Post 1619 Sons of the American Legion.
