To Carl’s family I extend my deepest sympathy. I was very sad to read of his passing. He was a fine music teacher with a sense of humor. It was a pleasure to work with him at Broad Street School. May he Rest In Peace. God bless you all on your sorrow.

So sorry Sally, and family, for your loss of this great guy. We loved making music with him at the Naz. We know he is playing in the orchestra in heaven, and some day we will all make music together again.
Love, Holly and Mike Pullman

I will ALWAYS remember "Mary Had a Little BUFFALO" ! Fond memories of a GREAT Man. Please enjoy the portrait I made of him in the mid 90's ( I may have shot the other one) and a fun concert your father and I played together in. - John "Thumper" Wayne Johnston Broad Street BEES

Dear Kokes Family,
I was in the PHS orchestra back in the mid-1970s. Though I haven't seen him in many years, I can still hear and picture Mr. Kokes leading the orchestra. Those 4 years in the orchestra and band were a great experience.
My condolences,
Monica Bartoszek

To a wonderful violin teacher of eight years. You always encouraged me that I could play anything and that I was better than I truly thought I was. Thank you for your teachings, leading myself and others in the May Festivals, the Adirondack Youth Orchestra, and the beautiful sounds you created on your violin. May the good Lord bless you and keep you in eternal resting peace. Heaven has now one more beautiful violinist in its presence. Thank you Mr. Kokes.

Carl is known too many as Fu Ling the House Boy, God Parent to my son, Teacher, Master Conductor of rail roads and orchestras, Mayor of Peru (self declared of course), Stick Clause, Fiddler on the Roof, and many other names. But to me, his most important title was “Friend”.
In 1989 Carl and Sally took an interest in a young family starting out in the Air Force at the Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene. I did not know it then how much of an impact they would have on me and my family.
He was the Laurel to my Hardy when constructing his teaching studio. Smashing my thumb with a 26 ounce hammer, while I was hanging upside down from the rafters. I screamed in pain as Carl laughed hysterically in the corner.
He was my companion on a county wide scavenger hunt on his 50th birthday, crossing railroad trestles over the Saranac river and putting his hand down a 4’ cannon from 1812 to get the next clue.
He was the Stick Clause of all, attaching cotton balls to his face and hair with Elmers glue (not water soluble when dry). Not sure he ever got all the glue out.
And last but not least, he was my long term confident and friend. I will be one of the lucky ones and extremely grateful to have been provided the opportunity to know him.
My friend “The only scars in heaven, are the ones that hold you now”. Will miss you.

I worked for years with Carl in the Plattsburgh City School District. He was a wonderful man - kind, intelligent and a wonderful sense of humor. Sometimes when we were eating our lunches in the teachers’ room, he would serenade us on his violin. My heartfelt sympathies to his family❤️

To Sally and Fanily-
Carl was one of the best music teacher I could ever have asked for. He influenced me in high school and even still when I was at St. Augustine’s for a short time. It was such an honor to play with him as an equal rather than a student. I do know I always drove him crazy in school. But that’s what we students do best! I will definitely miss him but will remember his teachings.
