Obituary of Lucy Ida Mayo

Lucy Ida Mayo, 86, of South Street, Champlain, died Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh. She was born in Champlain, August 20, 1934, the daughter of Leo and Ila (Brunell) Monette. She grew up in Champlain and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1951. She married Gerald Davison June of 1954 in St. Mary's Church in Champlain. Gerald died tragically in an automobile accident in the fall of 1957, leaving her with an infant daughter and pregnant with their second daughter. Lucy was later blessed to meet and eventually marry her second husband, Julius Mayo, November of 1967. They shared more than 30 years together before his passing August 9, 2002. Julius loved and raised Lucy's daughters as if his own. Lucy worked at Wyeth-Ayerst in Rouses Point from 1958 until her retirement in the mid 90s. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, American Legion Post 912 Ladies Auxiliary in Champlain, Champlain VFW Post 1419 Ladies Auxiliary, Mooers Good Fellowship, and the Altona Rocksiders. Lucy loved to be with people, socializing in any capacity. Left to cherish the memory of Lucy are, her two daughters, Faith Davison of Newfane, Vermont, and Julie (John) Bertrand of Orange City, Florida; sister, Geraldine (Joel) McCrea of Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Jeremy (Christina) Bertrand, Hillary Hauer, and Patrick Hauer; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Bertrand, Danielle Hodgin; and several nieces and nephews. At Lucy's request there will be no public calling hours. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Champlain-Mooers EMS. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers, 236-4747.
