Mark Rock

Obituary of Mark Allen Rock

Mark Allen Rock, 44, of the Mannix Road, Peru, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 2, 2021 at the Alice Center in Malone. He was born in Plattsburgh, November 16, 1976, the son of Kim (Duprey) Bruno and Mark Rock. Mark graduated from Peru Central School in 1995 and graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a Degree in Business Economics in 1999. Mark was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He played four years on the Peru Central School football team, and he continued the sport with the Plattsburgh North Stars. Mark also wrestled throughout high school and college finishing his wresting career as Captain of the SUNY Oneonta wresting team in his senior year. Mark worked for 20 years in retail sales for Pyramid Corporation. His work required travel throughout the United States with a high point being sent to Dallas during football season! Mark’s rising star in business was cut short by the onset of Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2014. Struck by this illness at such a young age, he spent the remaining seven years of his life battling this terrible disease. The progression of Frontal Lobe Dementia deprived Mark of his ability to continue to communicate or function. His parents Kim and Kris Bruno cared for Mark at home for 16 months until his condition required admission to a secure, safe, and monitored facility. In 2017, Mark became a resident at The Alice Center Memory Care Unit, Malone where he received excellent care and support. Kim and Kris will forever be grateful to the staff at The Alice Center for their compassion and concern as Mark’s loving parents were able to visit Mark several times a week, except during the height of the pandemic. Frontal Lobe Dementia is a relentless disease that not only deprived Mark of continuing his successful business career but deprived his parents, siblings, and extended family from the joy of this loving man with a great smile, laugh and sparkle in his eyes. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Kim (Duprey) and Kris Bruno; brothers, Paul and wife Trina, parents of special nieces Olivia and Sophia, Nick and Cody, Max and Madison Rock; sister, Liza Rock; grandparents, Theresa Bruno and Sandy Rock; extended Duprey, Bruno and Rock families consisting of numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Mark Rock; brother, Josh Rock; grandparents, Clifford and Lena (Perry) Duprey, and Melvin ‘Bob’ Bruno and Ellis Rock. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 4 to 6 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will be held in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel at 6 PM with Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Peru. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mark Allen Rock may be made to The Alice Center Memory Care Unit, 45 Sixth Street, Malone, NY 12953.
